Meet Heather

Hi! Thanks for taking a minute to let me tell you a little bit about me!

Heather McKeithen-Owner/Founder

Shamanic Practitioner; Reiki Master; 500hr Yoga Teacher

I was born and raised in an active military family. Through many moves, tremendous losses, and hard life experiences I came to a point in my adult life where I felt that the things I was doing to feel better did not seem to be working any longer. I was constantly feeling depressed, groggy, and physically unwell. Traditional talk therapy and the constant need to change or adjust medications were simply not enough...covering the pain I felt with a social mask that all was well could not have been further from the truth! One day while driving I had a sudden epiphany that changed my entire view of the world and my place in it in the form of a not-so-tiny thought: I understood why people decided to no longer keep their place in this world. From that terrifying moment on I realized that something had to change-and quickly! I knew that horrific thought was not of my own making but of a higher calling to step away from the personal hell I was existing in. It was a hand held out for me from my higher self, a calling, to let me know that there was “more to this”. All I had to do was seek out the right kind of help and to trust my own inner guidance to lead me there. I began to find peace in Shamanic Healing after several years of deep self-study and tons of inner work. Eventually, I was able to walk again with clarity, purpose, and HAPPINESS. I was able to tune into an entire unseen network of support and guidance to lead me on my path to good health and well-being. Through Shamanism I came to understand that, ultimately, I am accountable and responsible for my own healing. I was able to make positive changes necessary to aid in my personal growth and feelings of self-worth. I was even able to work with my doctors and leave the medication behind. Though life will continue to throw curveballs, through Shamanism I am able to identify when to use the tools and support system that Nature provides so that I can continue this most amazing life’s journey with gracefulness and strength. Eventually, I was taken in as an apprentice under the wise wings of Mara Bishop of WholeSpirit in Durham, NC where I graduated as a Shamanic Practitioner (Mara was an apprentice under both Micheal Harner and Sandra Ingerman. Talk about solid lineage!). I enjoyed every magical moment of my apprenticeship and am SO excited to share what I learned with this community.

In 2015, I delved into the beautiful healing art of Reiki. I have since attained my Reiki Master certification and am currently in the process of achieving my Reiki Master Teacher certification. I truly enjoy offering this life changing modality to my clients! I teach level 1 and 2 Reiki certifications from my office.

In 2004 I stepped on to a yoga mat for the very first time to help cope with the loss of my mother. In 2005, I tried my first hot yoga class and it stuck! After dedicating years to the beautiful art of yoga as a self-care practice, I received encouragement from my family and decided to take the plunge and further my relationship with yoga by enrolling in a 200-hour yoga teacher training program. It was beautiful to witness the fortification of my relationship to my physical body and to realize the profundity that this human machine, most simply, is the vessel of my soul. Wow!!

I opened Indigo Healing Arts in September of 2019…just in time to close again 6 months later during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a terrifying 6 months that we were closed! I was grateful to once again open our doors in September of 2020. During the time we were closed, I decided to recommit to a deeper understanding of this beautiful practice called yoga and enrolled in a 300-hour advanced yoga teacher training program under the magnificent Dharma Richards of Yoga Garden of Apex. Since then, I have also received certification in yin yoga and restorative yoga.

I most recently completed an advanced level 1 and 2 intensive yoga training module through Warriors at Ease in April 2022. This teacher training provides evidence-based techniques and trauma-informed protocols to serve the military veteran and first responders communities.

I live in Aberdeen NC with my husband, 2 daughters, 2 dogs and 2 cats and I am LOVING. THIS. LIFE!!!!

I am so excited to share this journey with you!
